Using your own domain with UnInbox
How to receive and send email with your own domain.
Using your own domain with UnInbox allows you to create unlimited email addresses for sending and receiving emails. This guide will walk you through the setup process.
Prerequisites
- Admin access to your UnInbox organization (if you just created an org, that's you!)
- A domain name registered with a domain registrar (e.g., Namecheap, Porkbun, Cloudflare). If you don't know how here are some guides for some popular providers: Namecheap, Cloudflare, Porkbun , Porkbun
Setup Steps
Going to the domain setup page
- Select the organization you want to add the domain to, by clicking on the organization name in the top left (if you only have one organization, this step is not necessary).
- Now in the same menu, select Settings
- Click on Domains, then click on the top right on New domain
- Enter the domain name you want to send emails from then click Add domain
Adding the DNS records to your domain provider
Note: These steps vary a bit from one DNS provider to another, but the overall process is the same.
- Copy all the following DNS records provided by UnInbox to your DNS provider (all the details will be provided in the app):
- Verification TXT: Verifies domain ownership
- MX Record: Routes incoming email to UnInbox servers
- DKIM Record: Ensures email authenticity
- SPF Record: Authorizes UnInbox to send email on your behalf
- Return Path CNAME: Enhances email delivery reliability
- DMARC Record: Choose based on your email setup:
- If you only send email via UnInbox:
- If you send mail from other services that don't enforce DMARC:
- If you only send email via UnInbox:
- Wait for the changes to propagate (up to 24 hours, but often within a few minutes).
- UnInbox will periodically verify your DNS settings. Check the status and last verification time for each record.
Troubleshooting
- There's a small load icon to force a reload of the DNS record although these are usually updated automatically.
- If you encounter a "We have detected an error with your DNS settings" message, review and correct your DNS entries.
- Ensure there are no conflicting records, particularly for MX and SPF.
Once all records are verified, your domain will be active for incoming and outgoing mail. Check the "Mail" section to confirm that Incoming and Outgoing are enabled.
